Term 3 week 10

We are suppose to have a full dress rehearsal. But sadly, no one brought costumes, props and everything. Actors and actresses have not memorize the script. Everything was in a mess. We must improved!! Seriously. This is counted for end of year examination but it is like no one taking it seriously. So we should do something about this.

Mr Chua also showed us video of Romeo and Juiet. The costume, the songs and the props. The line can not said directly after the line before that. So the video gave us some ideas or area for improvement.

Term 3 week 9

We had a literature test. The paper is easy for those who had study. So for me, hmm.. I'm not so confident for myself but hopefuly i will do well :)

Mr Chua also gave us a worksheet. On the worksheet is a picture of a African boy, kneeling down covering his head and behind him is a vulture waiting for him to die. So we are supposed to describe about the picture. What is the young boy doing? Why is he covering his head and so on. Mr Chua asked us to get into group of 4. We should pass around our worksheet in clockwise direction. Pick one of a very suitable reason and write down.

Mr Chua explain told us about the story of the African boy who is kneeling down. He is actually going to a station to take his food. When suddenly he saw a vulture waiting behind him. A photographer walked pass by when he saw this incident. He was waiting for its wing to open but it took him too long so he just captured this photo. Surprisingly, after capturing the photo of the incident, he did not help him. Instead walked away as if he saw nothing.

He won a prize for having one of the best picture captured. But then, a lot of people asked him. What happened to the African boy. The boy is already dead because no one helped him. Few months later he commit suicide.

For my opinion, he should not walked away. Unless he do not have a heart for people. What is wrong helping people. He may not get anything, but in that situation, people will appreciate his helped. A life is not something we can get easily. We live once and it's not long. But it's unfair for a young boy who is suffering, and only living on the earth for how many years only to die all because of someone who did not safe him even though he had a chance.

This week post...

Mr Chua bring us to CEPP. We were divided according to our group. My group is Bravo. Each group we given a space which is like place for us to act. So the four main actors which is Romeo, Juliet, Lord Capulet and Tybalt. WE already memorized our lines and try to act out. Stage manager, wardrobe and the rest were asked to watch our performance and give comments.

Last week post...

Mr Chua have already finish scene's about Elvis Presley and now we are already starting on The Mighty Mandarin. Mr Chua gave us a piece of blank paper and asked us to sketch the scene of the palace.

The story is about Fu, a servant of the Mandarin, Wu, which is another servant, Li Ling which is a poor peasant, Ching, Chang, Chung, his sons, Min his daughter, Sung, the Mandarin and Shang a young man.

It is about the peasants who bowed to ask Sung if he could help them to get fed. Sung agreed and set them free by chopping each of their heads. Li Ling, the poor peasant saw a chance and he would like to save his daughter by asking Sung if he could let Min stay alive by entertaining him with her talent in dancing.

So one day, Shang which is a young man who Min love came to save Min and trick the Mandarin. He nailed the Mandarin slippers then asked Min to disguise as a musician and play the mandolin although Min do not know how to play it. After Sung hear how Min play badly, she was chased out of the gate and given a piece of gold.

Soon, Sung entered the court and talk with Shang who disguise as Min. Sung found out that it wasn't Min. Sung cannot move as his slippers were nailed. Slowly, Shang escaped from the gate.

This week...

What we did on Monday was going through answers and Mr Chua showed us some videos from last year's Sec 2's NA performing Merchant of Venice and Romeo and Juliet. We could hardly hear them speak because their voice is too soft. They did not go for Debating Program like us so there is no reason for us to not speak out loud.

On Thursday Mr Chua go through Scene 2 and Scene 3 with us. When Elvis Presley was young he appreciate what he had, a Cadillac. He keep on staring at it when he is in his room, do not want to drive it. But when he is already old, he drove the Cadillac about hundred and five miles per hour and it blew up. This shows he did not treasure what he have. The speed of his Cadillac in the text was comparing with the speed of spaceship that launching and the smoke and fire coming out.

Whenever Elvis had problems, when his Mama was not there for him, he would always talk to Jesse. This shows that Jesse's is always in Elvis heart. Gladys Presley remind him "Jesse will look down, son, and he'll be proud - he'll be there - he'll be with you - he ain't never left me - he ain't never left you".

Last week we had no literature lesson.

Mr Chua was absent on Monday so Mr Amirul relief our class.

On Friday we did not have our lesson because it is e-learning day for all the Sec 2's.

I just revise about Elvis Presley. I read Scene 3 before Mr Chua go through so i know roughly about the text. There is difference between Youger Presley and Older Presley. When he was still young, he was so happy. He can get anything that he wants. He still have Gladys Presley. Elvis care and love Gladys Presley unlike how he treated Redhead.

Now Elvis need drugs to relive his pain away. The pain is "Gladys Presley died, yet Elvis Presley did not attend her funeral because of his responsibilities to entertain and performing for the US Army where he did not want to be at."

So that's all what i understand about Scene 3.

This week.. We continue our lesson about Elvis Presley.

Mr Chua asked us some questions and we must answer.

The motive of Mr Chua asking us questions is for us to THINK.

I just get to know what was Elvis Presley impression about the cronies, Duke and Gerry and Redhead.

Elvis do not treated Duke and Gerry as friends but as cronies. The way "he laugh harshly" in scene 1 shows what is his impression about his friends.

About Redhead, Elvis's girlfriend he also didn't treat her the way she should be treated. Redhead care for Elvis. Unlike Elvis.

The evidence is in the text. Redhead wants Elvis to stop taking drugs because she care for him and she knew Elvis had a daughter.

But for Elvis...

Redhead wants to talk to him about something. Elvis just asked her "Wanna gold watch? Cadillac?"

If Elvis care about Redhead, he would ask" Are you alright? Or something that bothering her" instead he asked what she want. It is obvious that he did not even care for her.

After the quiz ended, Mr Chua showed us the video about Elvis Presley doing his last performance before he died. He was acting so nervous and the way he performed wasn't what was expected. It was not professional at all. We all knew he wants the best for his audience. So few days later after the performance, he died.

Literature lesson.... We learnt new things.

Elvis Presley

We were suppose to write about what we know about him. I knew nothing about him. But i heard his name before. So After Mr Chua gave out a worksheet. It was about Elvis Presley. So i just know that Elvis Presley was an American singer. He was the best solo artist history. He had sold over 1 billion records and Cd's. He had his own nickname ' The King of Rock and Roll'.

However he had a dramatic life.

His was marries to a lady name Priscilla Beaulieu. But because of their unhappy marriage, they divorced. But they have a daughter, Lisa Marie and she was married to Micheal Jackson.

He lived in a big house which is his Graceland mansion. Beautiful!

In the 1970's he was grossly overweight and depressed but continue performing at Las Vegas.

He then died after becoming addicted to drugs at age of 42.

Other than Elvis Presley... There is also a lot of artist who was like him.

Charming, slim but had a dramatic life. Example Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson died because he took drugs too. He had it too much, overdose and he died.

Last week...

Mr Chua asked us to gather in our groups at Acer Gallery. We were asked to discuss about our end of year performance. My group, Bravo planned to act out Romeo and Juliet. For the kissing part, Mr Chua demonstrate how to kiss without letting our lips touch together. Cool:) So we discussed who will be the director, wardrobe supervisor all that stuff. Can't believe i act as Juliet. So many lines :( Can memorize ?? Hmm... Hope so :)

On Monday we played a game. It is like deal or no deal. Just that there is no money prepared for us. Hehe!! We were group in 4 or 6. The game is for us to be prepared for our test so it was like a revision. Just that I peeped inside my literature file.

On Thurs, Ms Malyana take charge of our class as one of our subject teacher was absent. WE were given a mini test about Romeo and Juliet. On Friday we were given a mini test on Merchant of Venice too. This test is to show how much had we prepared for our MYE.

This week we spend acting the scene of Macbeth. On Monday we already brought our costume except for some of them. We were not prepared as some of us forgot our line and some of us did not even project our voice out loud. So Ms Malyana asked us to act out again on Friday as our ating on Monday was not satisfying.

So on Friday all of us were prepared. All of us brought our costume, use props, put on make up, use nail polish and some even use powder on their hair to make it more like a witch. All of us was suppose to sit outside the classroom only the one who is acting can act inside the class. Just as I stepped in the class, I saw Mr Ang. Heheh! Must put in a lot of effort when acting. So everything gone well. I can't wait to know what is my grade :D

This week, we are not so tense like other lesson. We did prepare for the Mcbeth acting. But Ms Malyana told us that it is going to be postpone on next Monday. So we had lot of time to prepare. Ms Malyana showed us some videos of students making the Mcbeth scene. They used their creativity in doing the scene of Mcbeth. Some of them used clay, some was acting as a modern with and some changed their script.

On Friday we arranged our file according to what Ms Malyana asked us to do.

On Monday , Ms Malyana asked us to do a moving picture. She said one of the class do about a fashion show. The first person started with a catwalk, then another person joined in and doing the catwalk. The students then became a photographer, reporter, audience and many more. So Benedict started a moving picture of a person bringing a bag, and walking then syafiq joined in . He was holding a map and searching for a spot. Huzaifah and other friends became a tree. But its like a fantasy as the trees are moving. Some became rabbits and butterflies. I became a little girl who was trying to catch the buterflies. So that is what we do on Monday. Next week we were going to do an acting of Macbeth. Good Luck guys (:

Term 2

This week we learned something new. We were suppose to act out a scene of Macbeth. So on Friday Ms Malyana asked us to walk with different speeds. Speed 1 to 5. 1 is the slowest while 5 is the fastest. We also learned about space. We are not suppose to cramp together while acting. We need space in order for the audience to see us acting out the character given.

We are suppose to walk as a child, gangster and grandparents. When acting as a child, I skipped around the classroom lightly. When acting as a gangster, I walked showing I have the power t control everything with my hands swinging widely. Acting as a grandparents, I walked slowly, holding an invisible walking stick. As grandparents are usually weak. From here, I am a little bit prepared to act out a scene of Macbeth.

Last week during lit lesson we learnt about LOVE.

There are different type of love.

-Eros: passionate

-Philia: Brotherhood and friendship involves loyalty to friends, family and community.

-Agape : A divine, unconditional and self-sacrificing affection. The highest and purest form of love.

We need to write 10 names and qualities about our classmates.

So with the time given we go around ant wrote down about the qualities of each other.

On Monday, Miss Malyana teaches us, we were suppose to get in groups of 4 or 3. So my group mates is Shafiqah and Afrina. We were given a Rhyme Scheme wrote by Shakespeare. My group mates including me were frustrated because we cannot solve the poem. But we did not give up and keep on trying. So at last we got to solve the poem.

On Wednesday we had literature remedial. The NA students proceed to the NE library at 2.30 pm. We watched the video of Merchant of Venice. Before the video started we were given 2 worksheets. One of them, were were suppose to create 4 questions for either Merchant of Venice or Romeo and Juliet. Another one is we were suppose to do the character trait of Antonio, Portia, Shylock and Bassanio. So were were group differently with 2 thinking.

On Friday, Mr Chua brought us outside of our classroom for us to test each other. It is above the Indian corner. Were were suppose to have a pair to test each other. Mr Chua said the longest hair test first. So Shafiqah test me first. After testing me, I tested her, the she grade my questions and I grade hers. Second partner must be from a different races. So I work in pair with Rachel.The smallest feet test first. After we tested each other and grade each other questions.

So everyone, good luck for Literature test :D

Romeo and Julliet

This week we just learnt about the stories of Romeo and Juliet. Mr Chua showed us the video of Romeo and Juliet. We were suppose to write about traits and evidence from the character given. People with different register number are given different character. I need to write about Romeo. So he is charming and fell in love with a young, beautiful lady name Juliet. They were dancing the ball. The nurse said Juliet's madam wants to talk to her about something. So Romeo asked the nurse who is her mother. And then he found out that he had fall in love with his enemy, a Capulet.

After watching the video we need to do some homework. Pair work and individual work.

We also learnt about different religions. I get to know more about Buddhist, Hindu and Christian. Then we were given a piece of worksheet about imagery of Romeo and Juliet. Mr Chua explained to us what Romeo said as the English is very chim and I could hardly understand. After explaining we must write at the blanks provided and compose a discription of our love one using the format used by Romeo.

On Friday.... Mr Chua told us about the test coming up. Oh no...

So on Friday, Mr Chua go through with us the worksheet he gave last week. He called out some people to answer some questions. After going through the paper, we recall again the about Shylock punishment.

Maybe waive the fine which replaced the confiscation of half hi fortune and leave all his possesses at his death to his son-in-law Lorenzo, and his daughter is okay. Antonio asked Shylock to leave all his possesses at his death to his son-in-law Lorenzo, and his daughter because he knew Shylock hate his son-in-law cause he is a Christian. So they married and his daughter run away from home.

But asking Shylock to be a Christian immediately is a bit harsh for me.

My opinion

Asking someone to change his/her religion is wrong. Even though Antonio hate Shylock, he must not asked Shylock to change his religion. Let someone have its own religion. Both of them have their gods to worship.

After Mr Chua gave a worksheet, Buddhist, Taoist leaders accept pastor's apology we need to give our opinion if someone insult our religion what should we do? Forgive and forget, insult their religion back or bring this matter to the court.

My opinion

I think that we should forgive and forget. If the person who insult our religion apologize SINCERELY. If not maybe we can bring this matter to the court. We as a Buddhist, Islam, Taoist or Hindu have our own god that we worship. Even tough we are not from the same religion we should respect each other religion.

In Singapore, we live peace and harmony. Because the Singaporeans know how to respect each other religion. I wish there is no such cases in Singapore about someone insulting each other religions's.

This week lesson, about: Does Shylock have the right to cut 1 pound of Antonio's flesh? and Is Shylock a villain or heroin?

Obviously Shylock have the right to cut 1 pound of Antonio's flesh because Antonio did not paid the money he loaned from Shylock on time. Shylock hate Antonio because Antonio called Shylock a misbeliever, cut-throat dog, and spit upon Shylock's Jewish clothes, all because he use what money he owned to do business.

If this case were to happened in Singapore, Shylock will be a villain. Because cutting 1 pound of flesh is still considered a murder. They will be charge in the jail for certain number of years or for their entire life or hang or sentenced to death.

For me, I think that Shylock can search for any other ways to solve this problem. Why Shylock doesn't want to take the money although it is offered three times the amount that Antonio loan? The reason in the story is like what I mention at the second paragraph :)

Rewriting last week post

During the previous lesson, more of our time were not spent in the class but still we had our lesson. Friendship.. What is friendship?

Friendship is relationship with your friends. Friends are so important because they can help you in many ways. In the story Merchant Of Venice, we learnt that Antonio and Bassanio are such a good friends. Antonio is willing to sacrifice his life for Bassanio.

In life, friendship is important, without friendship, it is difficult to live. In Singapore we need to communicate a lot to earn a living. For my personal response, I think that I can't do my studies well without friends because sometimes if I do not understand nay questions, I will ask my friends to guide or teach me.

On Monday, we had our literature lesson at the field, beside our block, block C. Thanks to the three boys waiting outside the classroom for Mr Chua to come. So Mr Chua bring us down to the field and let us suffer from the hotness from the sun, since we want to get out from the class. But that day it wasn't so hot so thank god. Prefects and chairperson were to be blamed cause they didn't take care of class. So pity them, as they did not take their responsibilities properly. We learned about friendship. What is the best thing a friend does is to sacrifice their life for you. Just like what Antonio does for Bassanio. At the end of the lesson, each of us were given a small card to write for our dear friend. And we were suppose to gave Mr Chua back by tomorrow. :)

This week we learnt about quality of mercy.

We suppose to guess what is the meaning of mercy.

So i just guessed mercy means someone who have a heart.

But then the answer is compassion towards an offender, an enemy or someone is your power.

Mr Chua ordered us to highlight some important points.

We were given homework, What Is Mercy and to write about why our god have mercy.

This week, Ramadhan gave us the lit notes. So Mr Chua called out some names to act for the scenes, The Merchant of Venice.

So we went to Acer Gallery and watch our classmate acting.

We did not get to finish the whole story so Mr Chua asked us to read the whole story and finish our homework :D

Macbeth

Last two weeks , we learnt about Macbeth . But today , our Literature's teacher was on MC so we got a female relieved teacher. Macbeth was written by a popular author , William Shakespeare . This books told us about three bad witches deciding to meet Macbeth at the desert place .
